Women's Rights National Historical Park

Mar. 27, 2025

It is important to visit this park to recall the struggles women have gone through to achieve gains in equality even though those rights are being rapidly eroded in some states. This is the location of the first convention for women’s rights in the Wesleyan church in Seneca Falls, NY July 1848. Over 100 people, including 1/3 of them men, signed a declaration to fight for equal rights as women did not have the ability to work in most professions, own property, vote or have custody of children in the event of a divorce. The church building has been rebuilt and the visitor center is next door. There are some cool displays in the visitor center including quilts, representative statues, period clothing and the timeline of suffragettes. I would NEVER want to wear a corset or a bussel.
