Morristown National Historic Park
Aug. 14, 2024
This was the first designated National Historical Park. It has several sections including the headquarters of General Washington and the wintering grounds for the Continental Army in 1779-1780. The army ravaged the trees on the Wick Farm for building huts and firewood. The farmhouse is on site along with a vegetable garden and heirloom variety fruit trees. The park has the best markings for trails that I have seen so far in the national park system. They are all color coded with the color painted on the trees and intersection markers. I hiked the yellow trail to see reproduction soldier huts and wandered around the Wick farm area. I kept scaring frogs along the path and saw two cotton tailed rabbits. If I had been a soldier, it would be frog legs and hasenpfeffer for dinner.
