It has been about 30 years since I have been to this park. The park is scattered around several locations including the main part at Fort Clatsop where the expedition built a small building to winter in before returning east. The fort in place now is a re-creation on the same spot. I visited the main park, sunset beach and the salt works where they boiled salt water to extract salt. Being a coastal rainforest of evergreens mixed with birch and alder, it was moist and drippy for most of the hike along several trails including Fort to Sea, Kwis Kwis, Clay Pit and South Slough. Wild berry bushes were in bloom along with trilliums on the forest floor. The troll was absent at one of the bridges crossing a small creek but a rough skinned newt took its place. No touchy, touchy as it secrets a neurotoxin.
