Homestead National Historical Park

Hot, windy and dry. It was cool to observe the sea of tall prairie grasses rippling in the wind. This is the site of the first claim from the Homestead Act that gave land to people that were willing to work hard farming. The prairie grass has been restored with walking trails along the property lines down to a creek that has very large cotton wood trees. I surprised a deer and had a red winged black bird get mad at my presence. He did not attack me but did dive bomb close to my head as I was nearing the old brick school house.
