Guilford Courthouse National Military Park

Oct. 23, 2023

Squirrels, squirrels, everywhere squirrels. This forested park is the site of a revolutionary war battle in 1781. The courthouse in question is long gone but there are monuments and statues scattered throughout the park. The two mile road, intended for an auto tour, is super popular with walkers and joggers. Few people were on the actual walking trails, just lots of squirrels and a few deer. Although this was considered a British victory, they suffered heavy losses. The American forces withdrew leaving their cannons behind which were mostly ineffective in the heavy woods.
