I have done numerous hikes in this national forest in the past but never this specific trail. In between rain storms, my son and I hiked the Cape Horn trail. This is at the southern end of the forest bordering the Columbia River. The trail is a loop half of the year and the other half an out and back as the lower portion is closed for peregrine flacon nesting season. It is a nice hike up in mixed trees until we reached a breathtaking view point of the river, Oregon mountains and Multnomah Falls across the gorge. Coming back down, we saw a few squirrels and an orange newt cross our path. It started raining heavily just after getting in the car. Excellent timing on this hike.
