Carlsbad Caverns National Park

The entry time to enter the cavern has to be reserved in advance, which I did last week as it is the off season. One of the main attractions is seeing the bats leave the cave at dusk which only occurs in the summer and fall. I took the mile trail down into the cavern. It was steep and dark but paved the entire way. The main cavern is filled with formations big and small. I loved some of the names like Whale’s Mouth, Fairy Garden, Soda Straws, Three Monkeys, Doll’s Theater and Hell’s Spring. It is another mile loop in the main cavern before taking the elevator back to the surface. The wonderful thing here is that it is well preserved, little graffiti and most of the stalactites are intact. Something here I have not seen in other caves was the float stone. The water level used to be higher and it created cool features on the floor of the cavern that look like a rock version of floating wax blobs stuck together.
