Alibates Flint Quarries National Monument

Jan. 31, 2025

The quarry was used by natives for flint to make arrow heads, knifes and scrapers. The face of the quarry is only open for visitors by ranger led hikes on specific days, I did not hit one of those days. I drove into the park for a view of the quarry and walked the Mesquite trail. Sadly, there was a wildfire and all the mesquite bushes are dead. This area is next Lake Meredith National Recreation area. I tried my best to find the lake, but it was too low and all I could see was tall grass. I did hike to the river that flows into the lake. This part of Texas is flat and dry so any brown murky water is a valuable resource.
