On the upper peninsula of Michigan, I drove to it from Wisconsin and hiked to O Kun de Kun falls. The river was rather muddy brown from all the intense thunderstorms the last couple days. The upper falls was nice but the main falls has large boulders that include a cool cave on the other side. I could tell I was back in the Northwoods when I heard the ruffed grouse. It sounds like a small engine starting up. A cute female Scarlet Tanager greeted me along the trail, which is dark yellow and not red like the male.
