The monument is in a strange location. It is on a small slice of land that juts into Mojave National Preserve, but the center of the slice is private land that operates an open pit gold and silver mine. The only way to access the monument is on the shared road with the mine operation. There are no hiking trails, but I did wander about. The mountains are fine but the best feature here is the Joshua trees completely covering the hills. There are more Joshua trees here than in the park named after them.
