I started off with Sand Canyon and hiked just over half way up and back. There were so many cool rock formations and ancient brick pueblos. This was one of my favorite hikes this year and it was amazingly well marked for a BLM trail. I saw numerous birds and had to avoid a small deer herd on the way in. The afternoon led to Lowry Pueblo, which is only a short hike from the parking lot. This is a huge structure that was mostly rebuilt in the 1930s after excavation. Sadly, the painted plaster mosaic on the interior was lost.
