Situated on a Navy base on the tip of Point Loma in San Diego, this site is open to the public during specific hours daily. It is dedicated to Spaniard Juan Cabrillo who led the expedition that landed at this spot in 1542, becoming the first Europeans to visit California. The site has a nice lighthouse, numerous trails and a great view of kelp beds, San Diego, submarine pens, dry docks and a Naval air base. There was a lot of air traffic including several loud fighter jets. The barking of lounging sea lions was more pleasant when I hiked the Bayside trail.
