North Cascades National Park

Day 1 - June 1, 2025

The drive through this park is amazingly beautiful with towering mountains on all sides. The river and lakes are all a green color that is breathtaking. I started the day with a quick walk at High Gorge then proceeded to two trails in the Okanogan National Forest. My last hike of the day was at Happy Creek which was a short 1.2 miles to a waterfall. Over half of that trail was extremely steep and rocky leading to a small cascading stream. Not worth the intense hike. I finished the day off at the Colonial Creek Campground which I had a great spot right on the banks of Diablo Lake.

Day 2, June 2

The quiet evening at the campground was interrupted by a goose fight. The two male Canada Geese were in full cobra chicken mode with honking, screeching and wing flapping. The loser got his feathers ruffled but was unharmed. The view from my tent was so nice that I hated to pack up camp and leave but I had to go back to work after one last hike. I went up Thunder Knob which had a great view of the lake from the top and was probably the easiest trail I was on all weekend.
