River Raisin National Battlefield

This was the site of the worst defeat of the US military in the war of 1812. There is nothing on site except a field that is across from the river. The trails appear to be popular with locals for walking and I saw a bunch of rhubarb as a reminder this land used to be the farms of French colonists. The importance of this battle was that the natives sided with the British and provided most of the troops in the battle. US policy towards removing natives from their traditional lands was a direct result of the war in general and specifically this battle that lost over 200 soldiers. Although there were a surprising amount of birds in the park, their chirping did not down out the industrial area surrounding the park.
