Chippewa National Forest

My son was with me for this trip and we stopped at two areas of the forest. The first was the Lost 40 which has the oldest and largest trees in Minnesota. The trail was beautiful and information signs tell the story of how this parcel of forest was accidently left off the original survey due to a mistake by the crew. As it did not exist on record, it did not get logged so the trees were able to become old growth boreal forest. The second stop was the Simpson Creek trail near Cutfoot Sioux. The trail was typical mixed birch, alder, fir and pine leading to a lake. My son found a large turkey pin feather and I stuck it in his man bun for the rest of the hike.
