Roger Williams National Memorial

Jan. 16, 2025

I do not normally seek out the memorials, but the locals suggested this place. It is located in downtown Providence where the first spring was used for the city. Roger Williams gravesite is not known nor is his date of death. In the 1630s, he fled England for religious freedom and did not find it in the Massachusetts colony. He founded Providence on the basis of separation of politics and religion, wrote the charter for Rhode Island and was famous for befriending the local natives. The park is small but there are walking paths by a couple memorials and the spring. A statue depicting him is in a nearby city park.
